2019 Beauty Favourites

by - Wednesday, January 22, 2020

Another year is gone (this one went way too fast if you ask me) and along with it a whole decade! Welcome to 2020, how futuristic does this sound?

It's now time to look back into 2019 and pick my favourite beauty products, the ones I used again and again and they've almost become permanent residents in my skincare cupboard and make-up drawer. There is a good mix between high street and high end products as you will see, because we are not snobbish to a good bargain in this house! You may have seen some of these in my vlogs and my "Get Ready With Me" video already, but I haven't shared them properly with you guys and many of these I can guarantee will continue to be my good friends during 2020.

So let's get started!

  • No7 Hydraluminous Water Concentrate: I had read that a woman's skin can change a lot during pregnancy and afterwards, but I never thought I would go from slightly dehydrated oily skin to severely dehydrated dry skin in less than a month! I searched high and wide for a serum with tons of hyaluronic acid in it, tried a few samples and ended up buying this one from No7, as it was the only one my skin seemed to enjoy the most. Comes with a pipette, so you don't end up wasting product and believe me, a little goes a very long way!

  • La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Intense Yeux Eye Concentrate: I chose a serum rather than a cream for these tired eyes here (9 months of sleep depravation!), firstly because it absorbs faster and secondly because it is jam-packed with hyaluronic acid too. Cherry on top? La Roche-Posay is one of my top favourite French pharmacy brands.

  • No7 Hydraluminous Day Cream  AND  La Roche-Posay Effaclar Mat concentrate:  Two very different products, I used the No7 day cream mostly during summertime because it has SPF 15 and is meant to target drier skin, but on a day-to-day basis I always find myself going for the La Roche-Posay concentrate, as it is lighter on the skin, absorbs fast and helps balance my skin's oiliness - yes, after the summer time it started being oily again.

  • No7 Hydraluminous Overnight Recovery Cream:  If there is one skincare item that made a difference to the hydration of my skin during 2019, I would say is this cream. I woke up to plumper skin the mornings after I used it (because I didn't every night, way too tired some nights to bother) and it definitely helped the skin around my nose to keep hydrated and not break and peel during the many times I suffered for colds and my allergies throughout the year.

  • Liz Earle Cleanse + Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser:  This must be the 3rd year in a row I've been using this cleanser, not only because it's AMAZING but also because I managed to get a few bottles on a bargain and I'm still going through them. It is gentle to the skin but very efficient in removing makeup and everyday gunk, plus it comes with its own muslin cloth, which is fantastic.

Make Up

  • Nude by Nature Perfecting Primer:  I got this as a sample on a beauty subscription box in late 2018 and oh man, is it fantastic! I've tried quite a few primers, most of them with blurring effects because of my enlarged pores, and I kept getting disappointed because my makeup wouldn't stick, it would actually run because of the silicone in them. I guess oily skin and silicone in a primer don't work well together. And then I tried this one. And my makeup didn't budge. So I tested it again. And again. And again. And every time my makeup would last longer and stay in its place. I simply love this primer.

  • No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation in Cool Vanilla:  The best colour match to my natural skintone to this day. And a mega plus that it's a matte medium coverage foundation that you can build up to full - not that I ever do but I could if I wanted.

  • Urban Decay NAKED Skin complete coverage concealer in Light Neutral:  Slightly over the pricey side for a concealer, especially when there are others in the market that are more affordable and do the exact same job, but the reason why I love this one is the applicator. I know, it's just a wide doe foot but it picks up the exact amount I need for each eye! And I'm not going to lie, it is a pretty long lasting, full coverage concealer.

  • Bourjois Healthy Balance powder in 52 Vanilla:  I have to stop here and say that this powder has been a staple in my makeup stash for sooooo long I can't even count the years. I've been repurchasing it non-stop, so you can imagine how I felt when I found out that Bourjois will stop trading in the UK. Helpless! Does that mean I will have to go finding another powder that works as well as this one for me?

  • MaxFactor X Créme Puff Blush in 15 Seductive Pink:  A few years ago there was this craze about baked blushes and everyone was making sure to have one in their collection. I don't know if that is still a thing. I mean, ever since I got pregnant my interests have shifted towards cute baby stuff rather than the next big thing in beauty, but I still keep going back to MaxFactor to buy the BEST pink baked blush I've worn, Créme Puff in Seductive Pink.

  • Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil, Benefit Precisely my Brow Pencil AND Benefit Gimme Brow fiber gel in 3.5:  I have to thank my friend Sheen for this combination of products when it comes to brows. I know I can be very heavy handed with a pomade and was worried to swap to one. She suggested a pencil one tone lighter than my brows, so even when I am heavy handed it won't show as much or as bad. And it has worked, to my utter delight.

  • KIKO Luxurious Lashes Extra Volume brush mascara:  Before I even talk about my favourite mascara, I have to mention here that I'm one of those people who have very long lashes, to the point that they touch my glasses and leave small smears when I put mascara on. That means most mascaras work fine for me, but the reason why I loved this one is because it gave me volume without sticking my lashes together. The plastic brush wont be ideal to everyone either, but it gives better control compared to the old fashioned comb ones.

  • Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet liquid lipstick in 29 Nude York:  I'm writing these lines while still fuming from the news. Bourjois will cease trading in the UK at the end of January! My most favourite brand when it comes to highstreet makeup and its absolute BEST lip stains are not going to be available to buy anymore, so I made a point and stocked up. I now have almost the whole range of the Rouge Edition, but if I had to pick the one colour I wore the most during 2019, that would be Nude York.

What is the one product that you loved and used the most during 2019? Is it skincare or makeup? Or have you found yourself going back to your trusted staples and haven't experimented much last year?

Let me know!
