Beauty to Go - The City Break Edition

by - Sunday, March 15, 2015

So you're going away to a city for a few days, possibly visiting a museum or two, undeniably stopping at some amazing restaurants and definitely doing some shopping. You want to look your best because you know it all too well, photos are meant to be snapped. And of course, your make up needs to be long lasting, since you'll be spending your days outside, so why don't we have a Beauty to Go chat and I can share with you what I consider essentials for a City Break, hmm?

There are some rules that apply every time I go away from home and I need to pack my beauty bag, which I follow religiously. Yet, and I'm emphasizing this, you don't have to pack your whole stash if you'll only be away for a day or two. If you're anything like me though and want to make sure you're covered no matter what, then why don't you take a look at my bag to help give you an idea?

The one thing I can't go without, no matter where I am, is my eye serum. I'm really loving this No7 Youthful Eye Serum from Boots, have been using it for the last four months and I've already seen much difference. Following that comes my eye cream, in this case the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, which adds radiance and depuffs, such a saviour!

Having an oily complexion means I'm always in need of something lightweight but 100% moisturising. The solution came by Caudalie, with their Vinoperfect Radiance Serum and SPF15 Day Perfecting Fluid. Both of them oil free but ultra moisturising, their minis are the perfect size to carry with me when away from home, plus they take great care of my skin. And because "It's a crime not to prime", what better than Benefit's Porefessional, which effectively blurs my humongous pores and makes my skin look fantastic in photos?

Skincare regime done and the next thing on the list is foundation. Always on the lookout for the perfect medium coverage that won't clog my pores but will last all day, I've settled with Bourjois Healthy Mix in the shade Vanille (I've said it again, I'm way too pasty for a Greek person). Besides the fact that it enhances my complexion, making it look more radiant, it also lasts up to 16 hours, which is exactly what I need when I'm exploring new places!

Wondering why I'm carrying with me two concealers? I'll try not to write a dissertation on the matter here, but long story short, one is to cover and one to highlight. Maybelline's Eraser Eye Concealer in Light is my dark under-eye circles ally, not only because it's the perfect shade but it also helps reduce the puffiness around the area. As for my go-to when it comes to highlighting, it's L'Oreal True Match Touche Magique Concealer in Ivory Beige that makes the trick. Not only it's incredibly easy to apply but it blends seamlessly as well.

Time to set my foundation in place with another product from L'Oreal, the Nude Magique BB Powder in Light. Why a powder and not a setting spray? Well, because it's easier to carry in my handbag and secures a velvet and sheen-free result for longer, which is what I struggle to achieve (I also carry blotting papers with me, but that's another story). And if by any chance I have a dull skin day to battle with, I turn to Benefit's Highbeam cream highlighter to add that extra umph! to my cheek bones.

One last step before I'm finished with what I call the basics, it's time to sharpen those cheek bones and put some warmth back on my face. I prefer subtle contouring during the day time, which is why I turn to Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder in Fair to Medium Skintones. It gives me a natural sunkissed look that is beautifully enhanced by Milani's Baked Blush in the shade Luminoso, definitely one of the best blushes I've ever used (not available in the UK, click on the name to buy through Amazon)

And here come the eyes and brows!

My daytime look is always on the extremely neutral side, which means no eye shadow whatsoever. I love a good feline flick though and L'Oreal Super Liner Perfect Slim in Black Intense is the perfect tool for it, great even for beginners. Then I curl my eyelashes and pack them with L'Oreal Million Lashes So Couture Mascara, after two layers I get the voluminous dramatic effect I want. I also apply Seventeen's Cohl Pencil Liner in White in my waterline, it creates the illusion of bigger eyes, which is definitely what I'm after when taking selfies/photos.

As for brows, I'll travel with Maybelline's Eye Studio Master Shape Brow in Soft Brown to slightly fill them in and then apply the L'Oreal Perfection Brow Artist Plumper in Transparent, which tames them while adding volume. Simple!

And that's more or less it! I usually apply a colourless chapstick on my lips to keep them moisturised, like The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Solid Oil Lip Balm or Nivea Lip Tin Vanilla, mainly because after indulging into local restaurant meals and delicacies, I know for a fact no lipstick will actually stay put on my lips.

I understand this is a long post and some of you may think "What the heck woman, why so many cosmetics?", but I suffer from OCD and prefer to have everything with me just in case I need them. Plus, there is no chance in the world I'll apply much, besides skin care, if I'm sleepy or extremely tired. Concealer and powder will have to do in that case!

Until next time,
