My Little Box September 2014, UK launch

by - Friday, September 26, 2014

France, a place where chic and casual are two things utterly intertwined with everyday life, where women have finesse and an ability to make even the most complicated looks seem easy and effortless. That's where "My Little Box" comes in!

My latest subscription box originates from the city of Light, has finally crossed the Channel over to the UK, and with its long awaited launch it brings to us residents of this dreary island tips, tricks, advice and some of the french glamour it carries along with it. Are you ready?

First things first, can we take a minute and appreciate the wonderful illustration of the girl enjoying her coffee while reading a newspaper on the lid? Isn't it one of the cutest drawings you've seen?

Kanako Kuno, a Japanese woman who decided to move to Paris and start her life from zero is the artist behind it. I believe she has grasped the Parisian lifestyle spot on and I'm not the only one who thinks so (her work has gone up on billboards all over Paris in collaboration with the City Hall and My Little Paris). We will be seeing her illustrations a lot from now on (enter excited face here!).

When I opened the box I was greeted by a white ribbon wrapped around a beautiful card, that I will be framing and hanging on my wall pretty soon. Being one of those lucky people that have visited Paris once in their lifetime before (I will return for sure), I smiled when I saw the quote from Maureen Johnson.

"Why Paris?
Paris needs no reason.
Paris is its own reason."

That statement couldn't be more true.

I won't lie to you, I had very high expectations from this new subscription box due to some online research on its French equivalent and was over the moon after I saw its contents! The goodies hidden inside that "Little Parisienne Box" of mine where way better than expected!

I'll begin with "My Little Carnet", an adorable notebook. On its first pages it introduces us to the idea behind "My Little Box", its team and their offices in Paris (I'm envious),  where on the back it has plenty of empty pages to be used in any way you see fit. I can see myself turning it into a photo diary of some sorts (what can I say, I love random collages) and that's exactly where I'll be using the collection of cute little stickers that also came in the box.

I'm intentionally leaving the three items of makeup included for last, as personally I believe the unquestionable star of the box is the netbook case. With a blue back, a white and blue polka dot pattern in the front and another illustration from Kanako of the same girl that decorates the box's lid, this time holding her newspaper over her head (I guess the polka dots double as raindrops), it was impossible not to fall in love with it at first sight! Plus, in order to fit in the box, the case was folded and secured with a sleeve that quotes "Geek is the new Sexy". I have no objections to that whatsoever, for I've been considered a geek waaaaaaaay before it became trendy and fashionable (big proud smile on my face right now).

Last but not least is the beautifully patterned white cotton pouch where the makeup of the box lived. And let me tell you, we're talking high quality products here, one of which comes from My Little Box's in-house beauty brand, My Little Beauty (sadly they don't currently ship to the UK, but it's part of their future plans to do so).

  • Laura Mercier Foundation Primer: An award winning primer in the perfect travel size (30ml) can make any girl with oily skin issues happy. Actually, it can make any girl happy - period. It applies smoothly and helps control my forehead's shine of doom. If only it blurred my pores too, I'd be ecstatic. Its full size is 50ml and retails for £29 (you can find it here from Space.NK).

  • NUXE Huile Prodigieuse: Admitting to be a NUXE first timer, had never even heard of the brand before I received this oil sample. France's leading beauty oil for face, body and hair, it can be used anywhere you have issues with dryness and has such a pleasing smell, sweet but not over the top. The sample I received is 10ml which I'll be using on my desert dry cuticles and who knows, if it works I may be getting myself a full size one. There are two varieties, the splash bottle (50ml for £17) and the spray one (100ml for £28) that you can purchase from their official site

  • My Little Beauty Stylo Lumiere: In case your French are a bit rusty, let me translate this for you. The last of the beauty products comes in the form of a multitask waterproof complexion brightening pen. Its suggested uses are many: foundation fixer, eyeshadow primer, highlighting skin booster. I love a good multitasking pen and this one has already found its place in my handbag, as it added glow to my cheeks in no time. The product that came in the box is a full size and retails for 14€ (£11).

I wish I could share every little touch of French elegance this box brought with it, like the story in the notebook or the introductory mini stories for every makeup product. They brought a smile to my face and made me fall in love with this new subscription completely and utterly.

The result?

"My Little Box" is here to stay!

So what do you think? Will be joining the rest of us enthusiasts and subscribe as well? For a monthly subscription of £11 (+ £3.95 postage), I personally think it's worth every penny! Let me know!

Until next time,
